Macaque monkeys at Batu Caves 黑风洞的猕猴. ...

Macaque monkeys at Batu Caves ...

The site is also well known for its numerous macaque monkeys,
which visitors feed — sometimes involuntarily ...

They are going for your peanuts and banana's ...
If you give it to one, others will follow you may may even snatch your
bag of peanuts ....

The Macaque Monkeys are permanent residents of Batu Caves,
as I read about them; the macaques are endemic in Southeast Asia.
But I think they thrive here because of the food offerings and handouts by the
tourists, pilgrims and the monks who live here ...

I was told that eye contact and baring of teeth are threatening poses
in monkey body language, not the welcoming expression
that the macaque monkeys would perceive ....

No matter how amusing you find them, don't look one in the eye, and don't smile.
If they chase you, a slip of your feet will be a long way down ....

Emerging at the top of the 272 steps, I am glad I was about to walk down,
not climbing up the stairs again.

Very interesting portraits you brought here! Interesting remark that with the eye-contact and good to retain, as I will visit soon temples in India where there are macaques. But even if it is said that monkeys are amusing, they look so sad to me in these portraits. Thanks, Wong, for sharing this with us. Have a great day!
