The Sad and yet Magnificent 伤心,但壮丽 (1) ...

Kek Lok Si Temple
the pride of Air Item in Penang
...
I have not visited this temple for many years,
the recent trip was sad
...
It has become a tourist site
rather then a religious place
...

Kek Lok Si 极乐寺 ...

The staircase leading up to the temple is adorned with
commercial businesses

Steps 梯阶 ...

Further up the staircase, the conditions of the surroundings
of the temple is utterly un-inviting
...

Kek Lok Si 极乐寺 ...

Kek Lok Si 极乐寺 ...

Just before the temple, there is
a pond with turtles
but sadly it is not well taken care of

Kek Lok Si 极乐寺 ...

Entrance to the temple ...

It is quite embarrassed to see such sight
just before entering the actual temple itself

Entrance to the temple ...

Beyond all of what you have seen
is the
Magnificent Kek Lok Si temple
is still a pretty sight,
like those you see in tourist brochures
...

Kek Lok Si 极乐寺 ...

I suppose leaving the temple going down the steps
is a symbol of stepping
back to reality

Es una pena que estén tan desatendidos los alrededores de un lugar tan magnifico.Seguramente lo intentaran adecentar para que así llegue más gente al templo. Asi y todo tus fotos son muy hermosas.
Un saludo

You well speak of the daily commerce that surrounds, and the temple that rises in the midst like a lotus.

Again you give me the magical gift of a visit to a treasure I probably would never otherwise know about.

A wonderful place- yet it is sad when we as humans feel the need to change something that is- or neglect it all together.
Unique captures- thank you!

A brilliant capture of the temple.

Reflecting perfectly the challenge to remain strong, bright and alight throughout life, ones faith ... could become a promise in the making, to be a place well taken care of. Soon.
Please have a good new week ahead.

A beautiful temple. So sad the commercialism gets in the way of the true meaning.

The temple is beautiful. It is sad to see the state of the surroundings around the temple.

It is a shame that there are businesses "polluting" such a sacred place. Our Christian temples likewise have steps symbolizing moving to a higher, holier place when entering, and returning to the world when departing.

I feel for you and your shattered memories Wong, it's so sad what once was will never be again. The conditions, to put it mildly, are sad to see and my heart goes out to those poor turtles.

Unfortunately I have seen in many places such a "pollution" of religious and cultural sites. But the temple is a beautiful structure!

Hi,
You are right to complain, it's really sad!
Something has to be done!

My heart hurts. Because of the sad truth.
The poor conditions of the pitiable turtle!
You taught us the truth. Kudos to your courage.
Thank you.

It's a pity that a holy place like this one has been damaged.Picture eight is wonderful.

All photos are so incredible! It is awfully sad, that they keep this beauty in such poor state.
