Peer pressure 同侪压力 ...

I think no child is immune to
peer pressure and
It is tough for us as not so well-to-do parents
my 13 year old's classmates
are born into rich families
get to travel around the world
in every school break,
the next break in a months time for just a week,
some of his friends are going to Japan,
New Zealand, France Disneyland.
Some of them upgrade for every iPhones version
and Digital gadgets several times a year.
... and I myself have never had an iPhone,
so my son has to do with a cheaper phone.
For a Malaysian family to travel to these places
costs $20,000 - $40,000 ringgit per trip which is
many times at least 4 - 6 months income for most parents,
of course those parents are filthy rich who can afford it

Yeah, I guess you are totally right!
But good luck for you Malaysia is such an interesting and divers country. You have to visit many places before you get really bored!
We enjoyed very much the Cameroon Highlands and Taman Negara.. and we didnt even visit the other half of your country..
Many greetings
Yvonne & Raphael

my parents were not rich by today's standards but my father had a steady job with the government! my son's father (my ex) did not always have a steady job. my son did not always get what he wanted or have what other kids had. it's a dilemma for parents and difficult for the young to understand why their classmates and friends have THINGS they do not have. sometimes not understand til the young person grows up and has children of their own! from what I've "observed" from your blog you are a kind father, a gentle father and you do your best...your son knows this, even though sometimes he "wants"!

excellent photo!

I believe that people who are born rich have not so much pressure but if you start from zero, it is hard. Hard work, taking calculated risks and go for it. Try to be the best and you will achieve great things, even if you are not the best, if you try you will be better than most.

The education that gives children the opportunity passes you have financial, but also by values. I do not think that we should give it all up, but I think that we should encourage the child to battle and conquer. Not always what is given is easily valued.

Wong, however much money you have, no happier. They may have more things and spend more, but that they are not happier
Happiness is being comfortable with what we have and learn to enjoy it.
A hug.

We must enjoy what we have in life. My family is much the same as yours. We live on our farm and I teach, but we live very regular lives. Many of our friends always seem to be spending/traveling, etc...

this is a world-wide problem today.
Your photo tugs at the heart.
How we handle questions like this
determine the tone of family
and society.
Today the rich flaunt
and seem unaware of others
or higher callings
than spending.
would we be different?

This is a problem that parents all over the world face. Young people think the quality of life is determined by 'things' rather than values.

what a moving entry. i used to walk to school wearing clothes from my father. took me a few decades to understand, that it helps to build a character.

please have you all a good wednesday.
