God's Middle Finger 中指 ...

Greeting visitors at the entrance to one of the
most visited Temple in Hong Kong,
"The Wong Tai Sin Temple",
there is a God statue with
a middle finger gesture;
I myself find it a little weird too

Those Chinese god statues most of the time look me a little bit agressive and frightning.

Greetings,

Yikes! Tell me this is a contemporary statue and not an ancient one.

This should be one of the celestial guardians, defending the temple. May be he wants to tell the enemies they have no chance there! It's unusual, this gesture. I saw many celestial guardians, in different countries, but never this gesture.

Interesting for sure.

Probably an ancient sign, which turned out to be used in a way different manner. Would be interesting to find out whether it might create a written sign or alike.

Please have a good new week.

I wonder what's the origin of this "interesting" finger position.
